WANEP seeks to increase knowledge in peacebuilding in West Africa and other regions in Africa through a cutting-edge, demand driven and collaborative research with partners including States, ECOWAS, AU, UN, EU, and the private sector. Broadly, WANEP’s research encompasses the following thematic areas:
- Human security
- Early Warning and Early Response
- Resilience building
- Democracy, governance and Elections
- Women, Peace and Security
- Youth Peacebuilding
- Environmental Security – climate change, natural resource conflicts, and associated intra and inter-communal violence
- Violent extremism, terrorism and transnational organised crimes
The research products are thus designed to support policy advocacy, effective decision making and serve as a resource for leveraging partnerships for peace and security. Furthermore, WANEP’s research products are used to generate enlightened discourses in peace and security to enable state and non-state actors to take decisions based on empirical evidence. Furthermore, the research products also serve as reference materials for academics, researchers, practitioners, policy makers, students, and other relevant actors.
