Introduction
Over the past decade, the African continent has been grappling with complex conflicts with national, regional, and global ramifications. Prominent among them are the violent conflicts in Mali, Ethiopia, Sudan, South Sudan, Central African Republic, Somalia, Democratic Republic of Congo and Libya. Multi-stakeholder approaches have been widely promoted as an important strategy to mediate and transform conflicts to foster sustainable peace and development. However, there is a dearth of literature that systematically and comprehensively analyzes the nature and scope, as well as the challenges, of an evolving multi-stakeholder approach to peace processes on the continent particularly through a case study lens.
