WANEP Joins Dialogue on Sustainable Financing for Ghana’s WPS Agenda

0

WANEP participated in a policy roundtable on financing Ghana’s National Action Plan II (GHANAP2) on United Nations Security Council Resolution 1325. The event was held on 15 July 2025 in Accra, Ghana and organised by the Foundation for Security and Development in Africa (FOSDA).

The roundtable aimed to foster reflection on innovative strategies for securing sustainable funding for the effective implementation of GHANAP2 and the broader Women, Peace and Security (WPS) agenda in Ghana. This dialogue was especially timely given the global decline in development aid, which threatens to affect WPS efforts both globally and locally.

The meeting convened 30 participants from government institutions, civil society organisations, and development partners. Discussions emphasised the urgency of identifying alternative and long-term funding options to sustain progress on the WPS agenda.

Key recommendations included:

  • Encouraging the Government of Ghana to adopt a developmental approach to the WPS agenda, recognising its contributions to national stability and growth, thereby justifying increased domestic funding.
  • Mainstreaming GHANAP2 activities into the strategic plans of relevant ministries and agencies to foster ownership and reduce operational costs.
  • Engaging the private sector to support the WPS agenda as part of their corporate social responsibility commitments.
  • Establishing a financial benchmark for WPS implementation across ECOWAS member states.
