{"id":2677,"date":"2020-08-24T16:12:39","date_gmt":"2020-08-24T16:12:39","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/wanep.gravitywebsolutionsgh.com\/?p=2677"},"modified":"2020-08-24T16:12:39","modified_gmt":"2020-08-24T16:12:39","slug":"from-the-field-series-mediating-complex-community-conflicts-lessons-from-jos-plateau-nigeria-and-bawku-upper-west-of-ghana","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/wanep.org\/wanep\/from-the-field-series-mediating-complex-community-conflicts-lessons-from-jos-plateau-nigeria-and-bawku-upper-west-of-ghana\/","title":{"rendered":"&#8220;From the Field&#8221; Series &#8212; MEDIATING COMPLEX COMMUNITY CONFLICTS: Lessons from Jos Plateau, Nigeria and Bawku, Upper West of Ghana"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The West Africa Network for Peacebuilding &#8216;s\u00a0(WANEP) role in dialogue and mediation has become\u00a0increasingly recognized and acclaimed by major\u00a0stakeholders and key partners in peace and security.<\/p>\n<p>WANEP&#8217;s emphasis on collaborative approaches and\u00a0in complementing state effort in addressing conflicts\u00a0was echoed by the former Secretary to the \u00a0government of Plateau state late Gynang Nyam\u00a0Shom at the Jos dialogue design meeting (February 3\u00a0&#8211; 4, 2011) when he stated \u201cthe WANEP dialogue and\u00a0intervention strategy enhances trust and empowers\u00a0conflict parties to take ownership of the process\u201d. The\u00a0realization that government and nongovernmental\u00a0collaboration is critical to mitigate the risks and\u00a0threats of conflicts has been a driving force for\u00a0WANEP&#8217;s interventions at the community, national\u00a0and regional levels. In this regard, the organization\u00a0has led several community based dialogue and\u00a0mediation efforts across the West African region.<\/p>\n<p>It has also been instrumental in creating structures\u00a0that further facilitate peaceful co-existence in post\u00a0conflict communities including the Bawku Inter-Ethnic Peace Committee in Ghana and Plateau State\u00a0Inter-Community Peace Committee in Nigeria.\u00a0WANEP has at various times supported the\u00a0establishment and operationalization of\u00a0infrastructures for peace and served on peace\u00a0committees set up by governments in the region<strong>\u00a0&#8230;..\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.wanep.org\/wanep\/files\/2017\/mar\/from_the_field_n01.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><em>Read more<\/em><\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The West Africa Network for Peacebuilding &#8216;s\u00a0(WANEP) role in dialogue and mediation has become\u00a0increasingly recognized and acclaimed by major\u00a0stakeholders and key partners in peace and security.
