The\u00a0West Africa Network for Peacebuilding\u00a0convened a two-day Process Inception Workshop in\u00a0Accra\u00a0from\u00a04 to 5 March 2026<\/strong>\u00a0under the theme\u00a0\u201cSustainable Futures: Navigating the Intersection of Land Use, Climate Change and Peacebuilding.\u201d<\/em>\u00a0The workshop marked the launch of a regional initiative spanning seven West African countries: Benin, C\u00f4te d\u2019Ivoire, Ghana, Mali, Niger, Senegal, and Togo. The initiative is supported by the\u00a0Robert Bosch Stiftung.<\/span><\/p>\n

The initiative aims to improve responses to issues linking land use, climate change and conflict prevention. WANEP will support locally rooted civil society organisations, promote inclusive and community-driven project design, and encourage innovative approaches to land management, climate adaptation and peacebuilding.<\/span><\/p>\n

Participants engaged in technical sessions on early warning and response systems, financial accountability and the WANEP Organisational Development Index (WODI). Additional discussions focused on monitoring and evaluation, strategic planning, and communication. Experience-sharing among country teams further enriched the workshop, highlighting practical, context-specific solutions.<\/span><\/p>\n

WANEP\u2019s Executive Director,\u00a0Levinia Addae-Mensah, highlighted the Organisation\u2019s commitment to strengthening early warning systems and policy responses to climate-related conflict drivers. She noted that, in alignment with the\u00a0ECOWAS Conflict Prevention Framework, WANEP will work with regional stakeholders, including\u00a0UNOWAS, to ensure field-based evidence informs policy at national and regional levels.<\/span><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
