The West Africa Network for Peacebuilding (WANEP) has renewed its joint financing arrangement with Sweden, Denmark and Austria for another three years from 2017 to 2020. The symbolic signing ceremony was performed by WANEP Executive Director, Mr. Chukwuemeka Eze on May 15, 2017 at the WANEP Regional Secretariat Accra-Ghana, in the presence of Management Team and Program Staff.

Speaking at the brief ceremony, Ms Levinia Addae-Mensah, Program Director and Deputy Executive Director, WANEP said this renewal signifies the collaborative and trusting relationship between WANEP and its partners. “This is a reflection of the impactful achievements of WANEP as we strive to improve lives and security in Africa,” she added.

In 2013, the Governments of Sweden, Denmark and Austria entered into a historic Joint Financing Arrangement (JFA) with WANEP to provide support in strengthening the ECOWAS Conflict Prevention Framework (ECPF) through National Architectures for Early Warning and Early Response as encapsulated in the WANEP Strategic Action Plan. This new development is a testimony to WANEP’s proven professional expertise in conflict prevention and peace building and in ensuring effective coordination of Civil Society response to conflicts and crises in the Region. A mid-term review of the JFA carried out by external consultants in 2016 confirmed that “WANEP has made indelible marks on the peace and security architecture in West Africa, so much so that it is the trailblazer in Early Warning across the region.”
